Pearl Point project to bring new apartments, retail to Rockport

A new apartment complex, coupled with retail and commercial spaces, is making its way to Rockport in the form of the newly announced Pearl Point master-planned community.

The 34-acre project will be situated in Rockport, at the intersection of Pearl Street and the State Highway 35 Bypass, according to a news release. It will be the site of The Residences at Pearl Point, which will have 456 rental apartments, and Pearl Point Center, which will allow for retail and commercial uses.

It is a joint project between developers Uhr Real Estate and Frew Development Group.

“Pearl Point answers the call from community leaders for new housing following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey (in August 2017),” said Mark Uhr, owner of Uhr Real Estate, Inc. “Pearl Point will become a benchmark within the city of Rockport and will be an integral part of the Aransas County Disaster Recovery effort.”

The Residences at Pearl Point will be comprised of three-story “garden style” apartment buildings, a clubhouse, community room, fitness facility, business center and swimming pool, garages, pedestrian pathways and green space.

The residential portion will be built in two phases, with Phase I tentatively scheduled to begin March 2019, and completed in August 2020. That first phase will provide 96 one-bedroom units, 114 two-bedroom units and six three-bedroom units, according to the release.

Developers said the buildings are designed to withstand hurricane-force winds of up to 150 mph.

“This project relieves the need for immediate and affordable housing and could also address the need for infrastructure in the area,” Aransas County Judge C.H. “Burt” Mills Jr. said in a statement. “We look forward to the completion of the project and the revitalization of Aransas County.”

“Our community needs and deserves this project after everything we have experienced,” Rockport Mayor Patrick R. Rios added.
